Only in LA can one host a pool party in the winter—so Mulberry made its way west and did just that last night, giving a Chateau Marmont bungalow their signature whimsy treatment. They filled a backyard with floating alligators—and tigers, giraffes, zebras and leopards—to recreate their spring summer 2012’s runway vibe. The brand’s Creative Director, Emma Hill, was psyched to mark another stop on the brand’s whirlwind Mix Tape Tour, their quirky celebration of music-meets-fashion. “It’s going amazing,” Hill raved about the series of live acts. “I’m quite funny about music; I’m quite old school.I normally only like seeing people play live and I know the words and can sing along.”
It’s no wonder then that Hill plucked soulful songstress and YouTube sensation Lana Del Rey to dazzle the L.A. crowd. She connected with Del Rey’s spunk and artistic approach instantly. “Have you heard her voice?” she quipped. “When I first saw her videos, which she does herself, I felt a real bond. I just love the way that she splices things together and uses loads of different references. There is Road Runner in there, and cartoons—she has an amazing eye. I always use lots and lots of different cultural references, so I really love that about her.”
Del Rey played her hit “Video Games” while Kate Bosworth, Alice Eve, and Juno Temple looked on and less famous guests smuggled leopard balloons out of the party—always the sign of a good time!
